Wow! I am still reeling over the amazing duck we had here on New Years Eve! Momofuku Ssam bar is located in the East Village at 207 Second Avenue (corner of 13th street) .The food and service were wonderful for such an unassuming, informal place. Opened in the summer of 2006, this constantly evolving place does not take reservations unless its for a large party ordering Rib-eye, Duck Ssam, or Whole Pork Butt for the whole group. Yes, you saw that right… the whole group. Momofuku Ssam bar specialized in Korean inspired meat, pork, duck and beef dishes. Said reservations need to be made 48hrs.-4 weeks in advance. For us regular folk, just come on down and be prepared to wait. Do not leave without trying the steamed pork buns!! They have large and small dishes and entrees run from$18-29 for dinner. Seating is mostly stools at a long counter and a few tables in the back, there is a part open kitchen as well.
We enjoyed one of the best times here….( our party of 8 and the unlucky duck !) They are open late, ’till midnight Sun Mon.Tues and till 2am Thurs.Fri. Sat. Most of the food is unusual/adventurous/amazing, so look at the menu before you go. Don’t be put off, as I was that no one answers the phone either. Atmosphere is fun and casual. Over 200 different wines and interesting beers to boot.
For our guests at Ivy Terrace Bed and Breakfast, its just a short 6 subway ride downtown to 14th street. Save the cab money for getting home when you are stuffed!!
